Australian Idol 2008 - Judge Profile - Tina Arena

Australian Idol 2008 Judge - Tina ArenaWith Australian Idol spreading it's search to London for potential talent this year, they have enlisted the help of some extra judges to cover the international leg of the Idol journey.

Tina Arena was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1967 to Italian parents, her birth name was "Pina", but the P was replaced to make it more "television friendly". Tina's first appearance on television was on the Young Talent Time at the age of 7.

14 years later, she released a hit disco single called "I Need Your Body", and soon after the album "Strong As Steel". In 1995, she released a completely different genre of album, never being very comfortable with the persona of "disco diva". The new album was called "Don't Ask", which spawned the hugely successfull hit song "Chains".

Since those early days, Tina Arena has gone on to become a household name in Australia, releasing 5 more albums - "In Deep", "Just Me", Un autre univers", "Songs of Love & Loss" and "7 vies". She has also received countless awards, including ARIA's much coveted "Album of the Year" for Don't Ask.

Tina Arena will be sharing the Australian Idol judging role with Savage Garden frontman Darren Hayes in London. It should be a delight to see these two great Australian Talents finding some great new talent over the next few weeks.
